What City Of Edmonton is Hiring for:

Journeyman 1 Heavy Equipment Technician

Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Position: Full-Time

Openings: 4 Permanent

Days of Work: 

  • Various shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends.

Compensation: 

  • ATU Local 583: $42.75 - $47.85 per hour
  • CUPE Local 37: $43.20 - $47.85 per hour 
  • $45.58 – $50.51 per hour (Out-of-Schedule rates for both unions)

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Safety and Commercial Vehicle Inspections (CVIP).
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul various components of vehicles and equipment.
  • Provide technical training to Apprentices and Servicemen.
  • Adjust equipment, repair or replace defective parts, and test repaired equipment.
  • Repair electronic and hydraulic systems.
  • Complete fleet logs, work orders, and service records.

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalency (e.g., GED).

Certificates & Licenses

  • Heavy Equipment Technician certificate or equivalent Interprovincial Red Seal.
  • Heavy duty on-road (Truck & Transport certification) and off-road certification.
  • Class 5 Driver's license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits.
  • Class 3 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) and ability to obtain air brake endorsement (Q) within 3 months.
  • Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) license or ability to obtain within 2 months.
  • Original driver's abstract no older than 60 days from all jurisdictions.
  • Ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit within 2 months.
  • Ability to complete Audiometric testing.

Experience

  • Experience using computerized diagnostic programs and creating clear work order job notes and reports.

Working Conditions: 

This position works in a shop environment with moving vehicles, noise, chemicals, and vehicle fumes. Some work may be performed outdoors or in tight spaces requiring physically demanding postures. Must lift 20kg (45lbs) daily.

Requirements

  • Standard set of mechanic hand tools.

Pre-employment

  • Pre-employment Drug Test: Conditional on passing a drug test assessing drug use, including cannabis.
  • Proof of qualifications.
