What Acden is Hiring for:

Acden posted they are currently recruiting Temporary Journeyperson Welders to join our Syncrude operations for an IceLugging contract. The shift rotation is (6) six on, (6) six off, 12 hour rotating day and night shifts. However, hours, schedules and locations may change from time to time due to operational and training requirements.These positions are expected to end on or before March 31, 2024.

These are local positions to the Fort McMurray, Alberta region. No accommodations or flights will be provided.

What would your role entail?

  • Weld Ice Lugs to heavy equipment.
  • Use manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal pieces using processes such as gas tungsten arc (TIG or GTAW), gas metal arc (MIG or GMAW), flux-cored arc (FAW), plasma arc (PAW), shielded metal arc (SMAW), oxy-acetylene (OAW), resistance welding, submerged arc welding (SAW) and Cooper Heat.
  • Determine required equipment and welding method through applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
  • Perform all work in compliance with established safety procedures and codes.
  • Repair worn parts of metal products.
  • Other duties as they arise that would fulfill the mandate of providing excellent service.
  • Ability to weld/gouge in all positions.
  • Able to work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Physically fit to perform all duties of the job including but not limited to heavy lifting, bending etc.

What does Acden require when hiring someone to do this job safely and productively?

  • Alberta Journeyperson or Red Seal Welder Eligible to work at all Oil Sand sites within

Certified the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo

  • Previous ice lugging experience is is required. considered an asset Physically fit to perform all necessary
  • Common Safety Orientation (CSO) duties of the job. certificate is an asset Ability to read and interpret basic * Heavy Equipment repair experience, blueprints including dozers, dippers, heavy haulers, Cooper Heat experience buckets Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), Gas
  • Successfully obtain clearance on metal arc welding (GMAW) (MIG), Flux core mandatory pre-employment drug, alcohol, arc welding (FCAW), Stick Welding and hearing, mask fit and physical abilities Gouging (CAC-A) testing. Experienced with 1/16” (1.6mm) wire.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
