Department/Location: Maintenance; Laramie River Station/Wheatland, WYCompany: Basin Electric Power Cooperative

Position Purpose:

This position assists with repairing, servicing, and replacing mechanical plant equipment, and performing mechanical and non-critical welding duties.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain and repair the plant mechanical equipment, including conveyors, pumps, fans, gearboxes, valves, and air compressors.
  • Perform non-critical welding in accordance with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and American Welding Society (AWS) Codes.
  • Ensure all equipment and tools are in good working condition. Maintain accurate records and reports of all pertinent information on plant equipment.
  • Perform cleaning duties and routine shop/ground maintenance as assigned.
  • Assist in the instruction of apprentices by providing work direction and on-the-job training for the apprentices.
  • Contribute to overall plant safety by adhering to safety standards, participating in safety training, energy verification, and by adhering to all plant regulations and procedures.
  • Assist with developing preventive maintenance procedures and guidelines for repairing and maintaining plant equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Must have the ability to read, write, perform arithmetic, and follow instructions.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and five years of industrial mechanical maintenance experience;
  • Or satisfactory completion of an accredited two-year post-secondary mechanical maintenance program and three years of related experience;
  • Or an approved apprentice program for either industrial mechanic or associated trade and two years of related experience.
  • Ability to analyze data, present information to others, and provide work direction, as required.
  • Perform non-critical welding.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Resume required.

Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:

This position requires continuous standing and walking; frequent lifting/carrying up to 30 pounds; and occasional lifting/carrying up 50 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 25 pounds, sitting, bending, reaching, and climbing. This position is continuously exposed to dirt/dust; frequently exposed to extreme heat, fumes, chemicals, vibration, and noise; and occasionally exposed to cold, poor ventilation, and electrical risks. This position also requires finger dexterity, hand coordination good hearing, and good vision. Tools and equipment operated in this position include (forklift, crane, hoist, come along, sling, jack hammer, machine cutting tools, drill press, hand tools, saw, drill, sander, impact wrench, laser alignment equipment, hydraulic, pneumatic and measuring tools). This position requires the ability to repair equipment under pressure due to time constraints such as outages, etc. This position will be required to work at heights up to 300 feet, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards This position requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle and must be respirator qualified.

Wage: $51.93 per hour
