Responsibilities

  • Safely operate shunt trucks to move trailers, containers, or equipment within the designated area. 
  • Efficiently load and unload trailers or containers, ensuring proper securing of goods to prevent damage during transit. 
  • Adhere to all traffic rules, safety procedures, and company policies to maintain a safe working environment. Perform pre- and post-operation inspections of vehicles to identify and report any maintenance or safety issues. 
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with supervisors, fellow drivers, and warehouse personnel to coordinate equipment movement and prioritize tasks. 
  • Keep accurate records of vehicle operations, including mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities. Complete required paperwork accurately and in a timely manner. 
  • Identify and address minor operational or mechanical issues with the shunt truck. Report major issues to the maintenance team and assist in troubleshooting efforts. 
  • Optimize the movement of trailers, containers, and equipment to minimize downtime and ensure timely delivery and pickup of goods. 
  • Adapt to changing work environments, schedules, and tasks, particularly during peak operational periods. 
  • Collaborate with other drivers, warehouse staff, and logistics teams to ensure smooth operations and achieve organizational objectives. 
  • Follow eco-friendly practices, such as minimizing idling time and adhering to energy-saving guidelines, to contribute to sustainability efforts. 

 Job requirements:

  • Possess a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) or equivalent certification required for operating shunt trucks or similar vehicles. 
  • Proven experience in safely operating shunt trucks, tractor-trailers, or similar heavy equipment in various environments. 
  • Strong commitment to following safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries. 
  • Ability to accurately complete paperwork, conduct vehicle inspections, and ensure proper load securement. 
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with team members and reporting any issues. 
  • Capable of performing physical tasks such as climbing in and out of vehicles, bending, lifting, and operating vehicle controls. 
  • Willingness to work in varying weather conditions and adapt to changing work environments and schedules. 
  • Basic understanding of vehicle mechanics to identify minor issues and perform simple troubleshooting. 
  • Consistent attendance and punctuality to meet operational demands and commitments. 
  • Able to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve operational objectives.
