Job Title: Shop Hand

Location: Grande Prairie, AB

Work Schedule: 10/4

The Shop Hand will play a key role in keeping the shop organized and stocked as well as ensuring that routine maintenance tasks are completed to schedule on the Company’s Sahara units. Activities include servicing, repairing, troubleshooting, adjusting, testing, and documenting machinery conditions. While the position will be based out of the shop in Grande Prairie, the successful candidate will be required to travel to oil and gas completions field locations to perform a variety of routine equipment service and maintenance related activities.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Manage the inventory in the shop and ensure that all critical bearings, rollers and electronics are on hand;
  • Use manuals/documentation to source specific parts, using information from the field to determine necessary parts;
  • Pickup and delivery of parts in town;
  • Basic mechanical repairs including but not limited to oil changes, bearing replacements, etc.
  • Responsible for shop organization including cleanup and upkeep of the shop and yard
  • Troubleshoot electrical, controls, and systems based issues via phone and while onsite
  • Assist with development and conduct training and a handbook with operational crews in preventative maintenance checks and services, including how to properly conduct basic and intermediate repairs;
  • Monitor issues and conduct root cause and trend analysis;
  • Other duties as required.

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Minimum two years’ experience working in a mechanical capacity with exposure to both field and shop work;
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot a variety of equipment related issues;
  • Additional experience in oilfield, sand or industrial work is an asset;
  • Basic engine, hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems (bearing/rollers) is also an asset;
  • Self-starter with the ability to proactively manage workload;
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists;
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite;
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and successfully handle time pressures and stress;
  • Ability to hold valid tickets including: H2S, First Aid, Fall Arrest, WHMIS, TDG, Wilderness Awareness

  • A mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work with different personalities
  • Troubleshooting ability with multiple disciplines (hydraulics, electrical, mechanical, etc.)

Nice to Have:

  • First Aid & H2S certifications are not required but are considered an asset
  • Previous exposure to oilfield equipment and maintenance.
