What Patterson-UTI is Hiring for:

The Senior Safety Compliance Trainer will be responsible for conducting new hire safety training and other safety related training. Training may include, but is not limited to: Forklifts, Aerial Lifts, Overhead Cranes, Fall Protection, Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance, and other instructor led technical and safety compliance training. This position will develop and monitor quality training programs and/or coaching programs to improve safe work practices and performance levels of employees; conduct behavior-based safety observations as required; and through monitoring these processes and programs, develop proficiency within the district. This position works under the direction of the Director, HSE Compliance & Audit.

Detailed Description:

  • Comply with all Company and customer Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, rules, practices, and guidelines
  • Conduct instructor-led Safety orientation and training for new hires, including driver training, safe work practices, and possible hazards in the workplace
  • Maintain quality service by conducting quarterly training assessment audits focused on Company standards, procedures, practices, and policies
  • Build and maintain rapport with Operations, Operations Support, and Human Resources departments to ensure Safety training is aligned with the most up-to-date safety standards, procedures, practices, and policies
  • Build and maintain rapport with the district management teams, and provide operations assistance when needed
  • Liaise with Technical Training to ensure safety training is incorporated into the development of competency training
  • Assist with safety meetings and schedule safety training courses for employees
  • Ensure all files (driver, employee, and training) for assigned districts are properly maintained by assisting with auditing of said files
  • Partner with regional Human Resources (HR) and Technical Training personnel on district new hire training schedules
  • Aid district safety management personnel in resolving safety related issues, such as incident investigation and reporting, root cause analysis, and carrying out correctible opportunities to improve safety records, as needed
  • Perform the duties as gate guard for all incoming traffic to customer locations
  • Set up, coordinate, and monitor training programs and periodic testing, and assist clerks as needed to ensure proper maintenance of records and/or documents on training and driver files for all district employees, including Coaching Program, Driver Training, Forklift and Crane Certification, First Aid/CPR, Drug and Alcohol Awareness, Supervisor Training, Pulmonary and Audio Testing, Respirator Fit Tests, DOT Road Test, DOT Hazmat Training

Job Requirements:

  • Possess advanced computer skills in Microsoft (MS) Office and working knowledge of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of safety training programs and safety regulations, requirements, and applicable laws
  • Understanding of OSHA, EPA and DOT rules and regulations
  • Ability to run reports and take ownership of training initiatives from start to finish
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship skills to work effectively in a cross functional, matrixed organization and with all levels of employees, customers, and third parties
  • Excellent communication skills which include the ability to speak, write and listen in a manner that clarifies issues, promotes closure, and delivers information in a clear and concise manner as it relates to human performance, behaviors, and skill sets
  • Effectively deliver training curriculum in a classroom and hands-on setting
  • Ability to assess training and competency progress of trainees
  • Ability to work with high level of energy, flexibility, and minimal supervision, in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Must be able to work closely with others and under time‐sensitive deadlines including potential emergency response situations
  • Ability to organize, multi-task, prioritize and work under time-sensitive deadlines while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor when adversity and multiple initiatives/priorities are encountered
  • Ability to travel as needed to other offices and work sites, occasionally requiring extended travel to remote locations and/or overnight stay(s) outside normal office area
  • Willing to work extended hours outside of a normal work schedule when training classes or meetings are being held
  • Ability to safely navigate work sites with occasional walking, climbing, standing, stepping, etc., during normal operating conditions (day/night, outdoor hot/cold weather) and while utilizing designated personal protective equipment (PPE)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (in Environmental, Engineering, HSE Sciences, or related field of study) with 5+ years’ experience in a safety training and/or compliance related role and/or field related Oil & Gas industry position with training responsibilities; OR High school diploma or GED certificate with 7+ years’ experience in a safety training and/or compliance related role and/or field related Oil & Gas industry position with training responsibilities
  • Experience assessing employee progress based on training and identified competencies
  • Must have and maintain valid state-issued driver’s license, be eligible to drive a Company vehicle and meet the requirements of the Company’s vehicle program, policy and/or guidelines
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Technical institute certification or Bachelor’s Degree
  • Have a valid Class A CDL with manual shift experience

Additional Details:

The Senior Safety Compliance Trainer must work with an emphasis on individual safety and safety for others, including coworkers and third parties. This position will split time between an office environment and working in a warehouse or field setting, which may require working outdoors for long periods of time in all types of weather conditions typical of the area where the job is located, including dust, humidity, sleet, snow, rain, mud, cold, heat, wind, and other inclement weather. Working conditions for this position may involve exposure to varying outdoor conditions, including environmental chemicals, gases, noise, dampness, fumes, radiation, and heights.
