General Foreperson

Location: Vancouver 

Project Type: Construction

Shift: Day 

Execution:

  • Coordinate the details required in the development of construction strategies, project execution plans, schedules, and estimates. 
  • Communicate consistently with subcontractors and staff the expectations and directions regarding schedules, construction methods, company policies and procedures, permits, safety/loss prevention, quality control, and other performance standards. 
  • Assist with the review and coordination of the project safety plan. 
  • Review the submissions and revisions of project drawings with subcontractors and other superintendents.
  • Attend all pre-tender meetings.
  • Assist with the planning and preparation of project execution, inspection, testing and safe work plans.
  • Ensure that the project site and company assets are always secure and maintain a safe and respectful working environment.
  • Manage team members and assist with conducting performance reviews. Under the supervision of a senior Superintendent, carry out performance management, disciplinary action, termination, back charges and other required actions. 
  • Review billable charges for materials and subcontractor requisitions and obtain appropriate approvals.
  • Attend all Progress and Safety meetings with all subcontractor representatives and review and obtain agreements on upcoming work to be accomplished. 
  • Ensure project closeout is appropriately finalized to settle all financial obligations, demobilize all resources, and transition the project to the client.

Planning and Process:

  • Understand the project specifications and general conditions of the contract and confirm that all materials and work comply with the contract and quality specifications.
  • Advise Project Manager and other personnel as required with respect to changes to methods, materials, schedules and procedures.

Financial Accountabilities:

  • Assist in the review and update of progress, cost reports, schedules, and forecasts to completion regularly.
  • Assist in the management of the project budget by controlling expenses, administering owner and subcontractor billings, and identifying work not covered by subcontractor’s scope of work/budget.

  • Assist with managing the experience of customers to ensure positive relationships are established and maintained.

HSEQ:

  • Take personal responsibility both for your own health and safety, and that of other workers, visitors to the site(s), the community, and the environment. 
  • Assist, conduct, and coach worker(s) in Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs), and Behaviour Based Safety (BBS). 
  • Know and comply with client requirements, Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, and all applicable government laws and regulations.
  • Hold direct reports accountable for HSE performance and verify that subordinates are executing their responsibilities properly.
  • Always demonstrate HSE leadership.
  • Ensure contractors and subcontractors meet or exceed HSE MS requirements during execution of work.
  • Hold the authority to control the quality performance on project site.
  • Communicate the PSQP to the project site team including subcontractors.
  • Execute the PSQP and implementation of all quality activities on site.
  • Monitor the performance of quality by the subcontractors.
  • Verify that the project site team is performing all required quality activities and hold them accountable for their quality performance.

  • Collaborate effectively with a senior Project Coordinator or junior Project Manager on the project.
  • Build people and self by providing challenging assignments, achievable development plans, and ongoing feedback.
  • Understand the implications of decisions on the financial objectives of the project deliverables.
  • Analyze the environment for potential risks or safety hazards.

Customer/Client Focus

  • Understand the importance of the client relationship and company’s reputation.

Education, Experience and Knowledge

  • Journeyman Trade Certification or a related designation is preferred.
  • 3+ years of construction experience is required. Depending upon the project size, scope, and complexity the years of experience may vary.
  • Supervisory experience. 
  • Civil Infrastructure project experience is an asset.
  • Proficiency in concrete structural work and civil infrastructure scopes is required. Pertenent Buildings (ICI) backgrounds will be considered.
  • Proven ability to manage project values $1M - 25M. 
  • Proven ability to lead mid-sized teams.
  • Knows the impact of change on cost and schedule.
  • Knowledge of construction engineering and design.
  • Knowledge of standard construction software and management processes.
