Planning Assistant (Temporary)

Duration: 11 months 

Location: Edmonton, AB

Salary: $45.846 - $57.931 per hour (Hourly)

Responsibilities:

• Craft compelling cartographic GIS-based maps and graphics for reports, public notices, and presentations.
• Support zoning activities in the City’s Priority Growth Areas.
• Operate with a high degree of independence and minimal supervision.
• Execute spatial analysis to drive project success.
• Plan and execute public engagement activities, including materials preparation, logistics coordination, and attendance at events.
• Conduct research on diverse topics related to land use planning, market research, and public engagement.
• Provide technical advice, recommendations, and maintain standards for graphics and mapping activities.
• Collaborate with Planners and others to determine information needs and follow up on additional resources.
• Support the team by responding to inquiries and reviewing recommended zoning.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning or related field OR completion of a two-year diploma in GIS, Urban Planning, Engineering, or Architectural Technology.
• Minimum of 2 years directly related experience with land use planning and GIS.
• Membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) or Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI) is an asset.

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of GIS and graphic programs (ArcGIS Pro, AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, Google Applications).
• Basic understanding of municipal land use planning processes.
• Project coordination skills with the ability to meet demanding deadlines.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability in design/visual communication and delivering information in visual formats.
• Knowledge of 3D modeling software (Trimble Sketch-up or 3D Analyst in ArcGIS Pro) is considered an asset.

Additional Information:

• Basic MS Office knowledge and SAP knowledge are assets.
• Considerable bending and lifting may be involved.
