What SaskPower is Hiring for:

Powerline Technician (Distribution District)

Location: Prince Albert, SK, Canada

Job Type: Permanent - Full Time

Position: Full-time

Key Accountabilities:

  1. Install, repair, and maintain lines, substations, and services, including overhead and underground lines and cables.
  2. Conduct live line methods necessary for assigned work.
  3. Inspect transmission lines and switching facilities by air and ground patrol, determining maintenance requirements.
  4. Diagnose faults in overhead and underground lines, conduct inspections and tests.
  5. Test electrical continuity and insulation qualities of repaired cables.
  6. Perform phasing for line and transformer connections.
  7. Investigate electrical interference complaints and recommend actions.
  8. Provide assistance for high load moves.
  9. Interpret engineering and manufacturer’s plans, drawings, and specifications.
  10. Inspect construction and maintenance projects to maintain quality standards.
  11. Investigate and assess customer complaints, recommending corrective actions.
  12. Verify new equipment installation and conduct necessary tests.
  13. Issue permits and perform authorized switching in accordance with the Standard Protection Code.
  14. Provide material estimates for maintenance and system improvements.
  15. Investigate and process customer service requests, complaints, trouble calls, and power quality issues.
  16. Maintain buildings, storage, substation yards, etc.
  17. Read meters as required.
  18. Inspect, service, and operate specialized equipment and tools.
  19. Plan and conduct preventive maintenance programs, keeping records.
  20. Adhere to safety and environmental standards and regulations.
  21. Participate in continuous educational and professional development.
  22. Prepare cost estimates as required.
  23. Supervise apprentices and other staff as required.
  24. Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  25. Other related duties as assigned.

Certificates & Licenses

  • Interprovincial Journeyperson Powerline Technician Certificate, or equivalent.
  • Valid Class 1A driver’s licence.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to safely and competently perform power line work at the journeyperson level.
  • Physical fitness for the position.
  • Strong cooperation and communication skills.
