CPC Technologist Apprentice

Location: Kelowna, BC, CA

Job Status: Full-Time Regular

Salary: $38.74 Hourly

Job Details

  • Enroll in a four-year electrician apprenticeship program and become a journeyman electrician.
  • Conduct emergent, investigative, and scheduled tests on generation, transmission, and electrical distribution system electrical apparatus and equipment, cables, metering, telecommunications, and protective relaying facilities by coordinating line and equipment clearances.
  • Carry out specialized tests required to analyze and assess inherent faults or conditions, including power quality and radio or television frequency interference.
  • Compile and record test data on telecommunications, relay characteristic tests, and other associated electrical equipment.
  • Install, test, and commission a wide range of generation, substation, and terminal station communication and protective schemes.
  • Assess and organize those conditions that must be dealt with in the installation and maintenance of telecontrol equipment such as two-way radios, repeater sites, microwave radio, power line carrier, supervisory control, telemetering equipment, telecontrol standby power equipment, and security systems.
  • Read, interpret, and troubleshoot complex protective relaying schemes and determine any corrective actions needed to solve problems.
  • As required, undertake cost estimates, basic designs, job planning, scheduling, work documentation, and reports.
  • Liaise with other internal or external parties to provide technical expertise as required.
  • Be willing and able to provide technical training in areas covered by these Duties & Responsibilities to others in the workforce, including employees in lesser-paid classifications.
  • Be subject to standby and callouts, and required to establish residence as per the Company’s Standby Policy.
  • Perform duties normally carried out by employees in lesser-paid classifications.

Certificates & Licenses

  • Diploma in Electrical, Electronics, or Instrumentation Technology.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License.

  • This role has standby/on-call requirements based on operational needs.

Residency requirements:

  • The successful candidate must adhere to the residency requirements of this position.

Overtime requirements: 

  • This role has overtime requirements based on operational needs.

Travel/Out of town work requirements: 

  • This role has out-of-town work requirements based on operational needs.
