What Government of Alberta is Hiring for:

Machinist

Ministry: Arts, Culture and Status of Women
Location: Wetaskiwin, Alberta
Hours: Full Time (36.25 hours per week)
Salary: $2,302.69 to $3,015.79 bi-weekly ($60,100 - $78,712/year)

Role Responsibilities: 

  • Provide technical expertise and research to curatorial in the safeguarding artifacts from  damage, and to minimize deterioration by demonstrating proper operating and handling  techniques and to establish standards of care for the display, operating and storing of  artifacts.

  • Provide research and technical expertise in response to requests from other museums,  special interest groups and the public, in regard to their artifacts.
  • Undertakes the treatment of actively deteriorating or otherwise damaged collections;  restores, stabilizes, repairs, consolidates and mitigates structural, mechanical, and  aesthetic loss. 
  • Provides technical expertise and assists with the planning, implementation, maintenance  and delivery of permanent and temporary displays or exhibits and annual programming.
  • Plans, prepares and delivers educational workshops and programs for the public on the  inspection, restoration, maintenance, and preservation of artifacts.
  • Ensures compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, W.H.M.I.S. and other  regulations. Keeps up to date on the act and its regulations.
  • Helps to plan and break down critical paths for projects in keeping with available funding  and the needs of the annual cycle of events and programming.
  • Provides both specific and general technical services and educational activities with  respects to the museum's collection and undertakes the appropriate follow-up to ensure client satisfaction.

Education

  • University graduation in a related field plus three years related experience; or equivalent.
  • Alberta Journeyman Trade Certificate in machining is required.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge and experience in welding, fabricating, woodworking, machining, and painting.
  • Working knowledge of computers, including the Microsoft operating system.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, expenditure systems, and revenue tracking.
  • Good understanding of Occupational Health and Safety practices and F.O.I.P. legislation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of historical transportation, agricultural, industrial artifacts, and their  maintenance requirements.

  • Ability to actively demonstrate vintage land transportation, industrial, and agricultural   artifacts.

Schedule

  • This is a permanent, full-time position 
  • 36.25 hours per week
  • Monday to Friday.

Certificates & Licenses

  • Must have a valid Alberta driver's license class 5 (a class 1 license would be seen as an  asset as well).
  • Must have or willing to get a power engineering certificate or Alberta Boilers Safety  Association (ABSA) Special Steam-powered Traction Engine Operator License
