Safety Officer - Construction

Location: Vancouver, BC 
Job Status: Full-Time

Pay: Competitive

Job Summary:

  • Experienced Project Safety Coordinator/Officer with over 5 years' experience in commercial construction.
  • Responsible for field leadership and delivery of Health, Safety, and Environmental programs at the project level.
  • Accredited safety professional with experience in high-rise tower, commercial, and institutional projects.
  • Assist project teams in day-to-day operations, influencing, developing, and implementing project safety plans.

Responsibilities:

  • Verify project compliance with Ledcor’s Health, Safety, and Environmental Protection standards.
  • Conduct and document inspections for policy and regulatory compliance.
  • Identify corrective actions for unsafe acts, resolve non-compliance issues, and provide education on health and safety matters.
  • Support effective incident investigations and recommend corrective measures.
  • Organize and share required HS&E documentation with appropriate groups.
  • Review incident reports, statistics, and inspection reports to identify trends and provide recommendations.
  • Assist in the development/implementation of project-specific safety plans, hazard assessments, and safe work procedures.
  • Chair and participate in Ledcor toolbox and project joint health and safety committee.
  • Maintain knowledge of local and provincial regulations related to public and work-site safety.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years relevant health and safety experience.

Certificates & Licenses

  • Possession of BC Construction Safety Officer (CSO) or National Construction Safety Officer designation (NCSO).
  • Possession or pursuit of Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or other professional HS&E designation (desired).
  • Possession of OFA 3.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Thorough knowledge of local government health and safety acts, policies, regulations, codes, and practices.
  • Working level of understanding of basic HS&E functions.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial construction practices, techniques, and equipment.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, ability to make timely decisions under pressure.
  • Competent communication and presentation skills, ability to collaborate and function effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to support operations staff and project safety coordinators, demonstrate practical leadership skills.

Work Conditions:

  • Physical ability to traverse uneven ground and heights, climb ladders/stairs, and stand for extended periods.
