What FortisBC is Hiring for:

Distribution Technician

Location: Cranbrook, BC, CA

Job Status: Full-Time Regular

Salary: $40.87 Hourly

Workplace Flexibility: No

Responsibilities:

  • Function as a Customer Service Technician and Distribution Mechanic.
  • Perform oxy-fuel welding procedures when required and trained.
  • Safely install, commission, alter, survey, maintain, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair gas distribution and transmission systems.
  • Offer technical and promotional advice to customers, demonstrating knowledge of natural gas advantages.
  • Conduct follow-up maintenance and troubleshooting on gas-burning equipment.
  • Construct, test, and certify piping installations, metering, and gas pressure regulating equipment.
  • Handle emergency incidents, including fires, explosions, and unplanned outages, cooperating with authorities.
  • Operate portable L.N.G. vaporization equipment and overhaul mechanical components.
  • Operate a variety of tools and equipment associated with gas delivery.

Education

  • High school graduation.

Experience

  • Minimum of two years’ relevant utility field experience.

Qualification

  • For those without a valid Utility Ticket, Provincial Grade B gasfitters license or higher certification may be required.$
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability to apply knowledge of Gas Installation and Distribution Systems.
  • Ability to operate power-operated equipment, hand tools, and technological assets used in gas operations.
  • Ability to make effective decisions during emergency situations.
  • Demonstrated safe work habits and adherence to safety regulations.
  • Ability to learn pipefitting and meter setting.
  • Ability to deal effectively with customers in a courteous and professional manner.
  • May be required to obtain relevant welding certification within twelve (12) months.
  • Ability to perform physical duties pertaining to this role.
  • Clear communication skills in both verbal and written form.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, holidays, additional hours, and standby/shift rotation.

  • Standby/On-call requirements based on operational needs.
  • Residency requirements must be adhered to.
  • Overtime requirements based on operational needs.

Travel/Transportation

  • Travel/out-of-town requirements based on operational needs.
  • Clean-shaven requirement as per WCB standards
