Full-Time / Lift Operator or Snowmaker/ $20.14 - $24.22 + Shift Premiums

Snowmaker / Lift Operator 

Location: Cypress Hills Provincial Park (Hidden Valley Ski Resort)

Position: Full-Time

Hours: 40 hours per week

Pay: $20.14 - $24.22 per hour.

Weekend and Shift Premiums  

• Evening Shift Differential $2.75 per hour
• Night Shift Differential $5.00 per  hour
• Weekend Premium $3.25 per hour

Wage Increase

• 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
• 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay

Terms of Employment: 

• Shifts are 8 hours a day, up to 40 hours a week.
• Candidates must be willing to work weekends and holidays, varying start dates from mid-November, 2023 until March 31, 2024, pending end of ski season and operational needs. 
• Multiple positions are available.

Accommodation

• Various low-cost accommodations are available for rent in Elkwater

Travel/Transportation

• There is no public transportation to the Ski Resort. 
• You must have reliable transportation to and from work. 
• The Ski Resort is located about 10 min from Elkwater and about 40 min from Medicine Hat.

Snowmaker Duties

• Safe operation of equipment such as snowmobiles, ATV’s, UTV’s and high pressure water and air lines
• Handling a variety of snowmaking equipment 

Lift Operator Duties

• Ensuring excellent guest service
• Safe operation of ski hill lifts including quad chair, magic carpet, handle tow and T-bar, as well as safe loading and unloading of guests
• Maintaining lift area including ramps, mazes and buildings
• Crowd control and ticket checking
• Assist with snow removal and de-icing walkways and ramps
• Assist in set-up and cleanup of ski hill facilities
• May be required to assist in other departments as needed
• This position primarily works outdoors in variable winter weather conditions and cold temperatures 

Work Conditions

• Outdoors in variable winter weather conditions and cold temperatures 
• Need great physical stamina. 

Education:

• Some high school education required

Experience

• Experience operating and maintaining equipment, including snowmaking equipment, as well as general ski hill experience 

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of park facilities/services, especially Hidden Valley Ski Resort or at least familiarity with other ski hill operations
• Mechanical skills to assist with maintaining lifts or equipment 
• Good judgment and ability to work well as part of a team
• Excellent communication skills
