Job Type: Permanent, Full Time

Hours:

• 10-hour day shifts and 14-hour night shifts
• 4 platoon shift schedule, averaging 42 hours per week

Pay:

• $29.334 - $50.282 (Hourly)
• $64,311.860 - $110,238.260 (Annually)

Openings: Up to 50 permanent full-time positions.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Combat, extinguish, and mitigate fires under emergency conditions.
2. Respond to and mitigate emergencies safely and efficiently.
3. Administer emergency medical aid.
4. Respond to dangerous goods incidents.
5. Perform rescue and extrication operations.
6. Work under potentially hazardous, physically and psychologically demanding conditions.
7. Communicate effectively, respectfully, and inclusively with diverse members of the public.

Qualifications:

• Effective communication, compassion, humility, emotional intelligence, resilience, and creative problem-solving.
• Proof of High School Diploma or equivalent/higher education.
• Valid and completed certification in one of the listed medical courses at the time of application.

Knowledge & Skills

• Practical understanding of fire, rescue, dangerous goods, building construction, and Emergency Management Services.
• Knowledge and proficiency in a second language or sign language.
  
• Knowledge, training, and/or education related to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI).
• Previous Indigenous awareness training.

Experience

• Previous experience, training, and/or delivering projects on topics such as anti-racism and implicit bias.
• Experience and/or lived experience working with diverse communities.
• Previous firefighting or emergency response experience.

Qualifications required at the time of hire:

• Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton.
• Pre-employment medical examination per the NFPA 1582 document.
• Meet the physical demands of the position.
• Obtain and maintain a Valid Alberta Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Air Brake Endorsement or higher.
• Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position.
