Pipefitter

Location: Baytown, Texas.

Pay: Competitive

Position: Full time

 Responsibilities

  1. Selects type and size of pipe and related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to job specifications.
  2. Inspects worksite to determine presence of obstructions.
  3. Plans sequence on installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other workers.
  4. Cuts pipe using hacksaw, pipe cutter, hammer and chisel, cutting torch and pipe cutting machine.
  5. Threads pipe using threading machine.
  6. Bends pipe by hand or with pipe-bending tools and machine.
  7. Mounts pipe hangers and brackets on walls and ceiling to hold pipe.
  8. Assembles and installs a variety of metal or nonmetal pipes and pipe fittings, using threaded caulked, soldering, brazen, fused, or cemented joints, and hand tools.
  9. Secures pipes to structure with bracket, clamps, and hangers, using hand and power tools.
  10. Test piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks.
  11. Loads, transports and unloads material, tools, equipment and supplies.
  12. May assist in lifting, positioning and securing of material and work pieces during installation.
  13. Performs minor maintenance of cleaning activities of tools and equipment.
  14. Respiratory protection is common and may be required.
  15. Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules. Perform other duties as required.
  16. Use effective verbal and written communication skills.
  17. Be capable of listening and communicating with other supervision and employees.
  18. Be motivated and work safely and productively.
  19. Understand and respond accordingly to all safety alerts, warnings, hazards, etc.

Experience

  • Typically 3 years and above documented field experience in chosen craft discipline with ability to read and interpret instructions and document, plan and perform work activities independently.

Physical Requirements 

  • May be required to lift and carry items weighing no more than 50 pounds.
  • Must possess enough strength and stamina to perform the technical duties and essential functions as identified above.
  • Must be able to move in and around confined and uneven areas.

Qualities

  • Must have full range of motion consistent with age.
  • Must be able to adequately hear and respond to voice commands and alerts from other employees, alarms, and other job related noises.
  • Visual acuity, depth perception and color discrimination consistent with that required to work at heights and on uneven surfaces.
  • Must be able to perform the following actions to the frequency stated: 

Work Conditions

  • May be required consistently to work 12 hour shifts performing construction based labor in varying temperature extremes and conditions.
  • May be required, on occasion, to work up to 16 hours in a single shift.
  • Must be able to climb and maintain balance on stairs, ladders, scaffolds and steel framework.

  • U.S. Only: Authorization to work lawfully in the US without sponsorship from Wood is required.
