The City of Edmonton is looking for a Journeyperson Electrician to perform electrical trade related work including service calls, preventative maintenance and new installations relating to building electrical systems.   • Perform electrical work on commercial renovation projects, read and interpret blueprints for layout of electrical systems on renovation projects
  • Work together as a team with other building trades (Carpenter, Painter, Plumber, etc.). Perform emergency repairs to electrical systems and equipment on a rotational 24 hour call-out basis
  • Perform preventive maintenance activities
  • Supervise an apprentice electrician, as required
  • Install data and phone cabling
  • Service and repair fire alarm systems, security card access systems, emergency power generators, uninterrupted power supply systems (UPS), main switch gear and sub-panels, public address/sound systems, scoreboards, heating/cooling appliances, motors, pool water treatment systems, gas detection monitors, overhead door/electric gate control systems and irrigation control systems
  • Respond to emergency and trouble calls
  • Operate service vehicles and maintain a truck stock
  • Inspect and report on the condition of building equipment and systems
  • Maintain administrative records
  • Perform tasks in a safe manner, reporting health or safety concerns and participating in safety meetings
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications

  • Completion of grade 12
  • Certified Alberta Journeyman in the Electrical trade Inter-Provincial Red Seal Electrician; Masters Electricians Certificate would be an asset
  • A minimum of 2 years related experience at the Journeyman level Alberta
  • Fire Alarm Maintenance Certificate considered an asset
  • Experience in commercial renovations and installations considered an asset
  • Experience in the installation of data and phone cabling considered an asset
  • Experience in the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment is considered an asset
  • A thorough knowledge of the electrical trade, be able to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment failure, have an excellent knowledge of control wiring and have strong decision-making skills
  • Familiar with the tools, equipment, materials and techniques used in construction
  • Knowledge of the CSA, Canadian Electrical Code, and OHS regulations
  • Highly developed customer service skills to interact with clients at project sites Capable of passing a job-related physical abilities evaluation and a City medical examination
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR certification
  • Hire is dependent on Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
  • Applicants will be required to arrange their own transportation to the job site or workshop as directed
