What PCL Construction is Hiring for:

Apprentice Electricians 

Projects: Solar Commissioning

Location: Southern Alberta

Pay: $25.20 to$37.80 depending on apprenticeship level

    Compensation and Benefits

    • Overtime pay at 1.5x after 9 hours per day or 44 hours per week
    • 5% employer retirement match

    • Travel pay and/or LOA will be paid if required based on site location

    Job Details

    • Executing electrical DC testing including VoC, ISC, polarity verification, insulation resistance
    • Performing infrared scans and associated reporting on solar equipment - PV Modules, strings and harnesses, combiner boxes, MV transformers, inverters and AC/DC terminations
    • Assisting with troubleshooting during PV testing's and performance testing during commissioning scopes
    • Analyzing test results with a Journeyperson Electrician and interpreting the data for recommendations
    • Assisting with development of manuals and commissioning plans
    • Performing field tasks such as electrical cable repair, splicing, and re-jacketing
    • Assisting with electrical installation activities as required

    Education

    • A current and active apprenticeship as an Electrician with Alberta Industry Training

    Experience

    • Previous experience on Solar projects or commissioning and/or O&M experience in utility scale solar projects is an asset

    Knowledge & Skills

    • Knowledge of testing devices including insulation resistant equipment, electrical meters, IV curve and PV string measurement instruments and infrared cameras
    • An understanding of major electrical and testing standards such as NETA, IEEE and ASTM
    • Knowledge of utility scale solar construction and required specifications
    • Strong planning, organizational and time management skills
    • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
    • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision making skills

    Work Conditions

    • This position is based on a standard 44 hour work week, Monday to Friday. 
    • Must be available for overtime and weekend work as required. 
    • This position may require travel to different job locations depending on progression of work activities. 
    • Candidates must be willing to travel or possibly live out for short periods of time.
