What City Of Edmonton is Hiring for:

Chief Electrical Inspector

Location: Edmonton, AB

Job Type: Permanent Full-time

Hours: 36.9 hours per week

Pay: $45.246 - $64.637 (Hourly) 

Schedule: Standard work hours with occasional flexibility

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction to a team of Electrical Safety Codes Officers and clerical employees
  • Craft and refine policies, processes, and standards in alignment with the Safety Codes Act
  • Oversee staffing, hiring, onboarding, and ongoing training; make decisions on work assignments, overtime, time off, and discipline
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure consistent service delivery aligned with codes, bylaws, and plans
  • Contribute to the development of strategic and long-term planning as a member of the section leadership team
  • Implement and participate in building action plans recognizing corporate goals and deliverables
  • Liaise with peers from other municipalities to adopt best practices in the industry

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Journeyman electrician certification recognized in Alberta and 6 years of relevant work experience; OR Electrical engineering technologist diploma recognized in Canada and 8 years of relevant work experience; OR Electrical engineering degree recognized in Canada and 8 years of relevant work experience
  • Provincial Journeyman certificate for Electrical in Alberta and Safety Codes Council certification as an Electrical SCO classification
  • 5+ years of experience related to inspections, including supervisory/management experience
  • Thorough understanding of City, Branch, and Section policies and procedures
  • Advanced knowledge of the Safety Codes Act and the Quality Management Plan
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent technical skills, including office, staffing, scheduling, and relevant applications

Education:

  • Journeyman electrician certification or Electrical engineering technologist diploma or degree recognized in Canada

Experience:

  • 8+ years of relevant work experience after receiving certification, diploma, or degree

Certificates & Licenses:

  • Provincial Journeyman certificate for Electrical in Alberta
  • Safety Codes Council certification as an Electrical SCO classification
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license

Work Conditions:

  • Office-based with occasional field visits
  • Collaboration with diverse stakeholders
  • Adherence to Quality Management Plan and Safety Codes Act

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform duties with reasonable accommodation

Travel/Transportation:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license 
  • Personal transportation required for City business
