Labourer I

Location: Edmonton, AB

Pay: $22.072 - $30.606 (hourly)

Position: Full time

Hours of Work: 

• Up to 39 hours per week. 
• Ability to work days, evenings, nights, weekends and statutory holidays is required. 
• Shifts are subject to changes based on operational requirements.

Responsibilities

• Complete daily janitorial duties throughout River Valley facilities and parks
• Maintain ski trails, ice surfaces and toboggan hills
• Clear walkways, facilities and trails of debris and snow
• Sand slippery trails, walkways and facility entrances
• Collect refuse in parks and on trails
• Provide excellent customer service to patrons
• Operate some equipment and complete minor maintenance
• Perform security checks on assigned premises
• Complete other related duties as required

Education

• Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent

Experience

• Janitorial or facility maintenance experience is an asset
• Previous experience maintaining cross country ski trails and/or outdoor ice surfaces is an asset

• Experience operating a water truck, plow truck, broom and/or snowmobile is an asset
• Demonstrated ability to complete public-facing tasks in a respectful, inclusive and service-minded way

Knowledge & Skills

• Ability to understand and complete oral and written instructions
• Ability to perform medium to heavy manual labour for extended periods of time in various weather and environmental conditions
• Must be physically capable of performing duties, including repetitive bending and lifting of large items (for example, garbages and picnic tables)
• Ability to work days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays, and adapt to changing shift schedules, is required
• Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel toed boots, is required

Certificates & Licenses

• Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is required
• Air brakes (Q) certification or equivalent is an asset
