Oilfield Strong: “Oklahoma is open for business and we stand ready and able to help those impacted.”
According to officials with the Oklahoma Office of Workforce Development, a hiring event will be held this coming Thursday in El Reno, Oklahoma to help those affected by the recent layoffs at Halliburton.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Canadian Valley Technology Center campus located at 6506 E. Route 66 in El Reno.
According to officials, the event will include help for affected workers along with several companies who will be looking to hire recently affected workers. Employers will be set up to speak with workers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m, while sessions related to Rapid Response will be held at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Rapid Response Activities
These ‘Rapid Response’ activities are intended to respond quickly to employer, employee as well as community needs when a layoff and/or plant closure appears imminent, according to officials. Ultimately, the intention is to help workers transition from notification of layoff to reemployment as quickly as possible.
Steve Crank, Area Manager with OESC said that “This event is an opportunity for us to help El Reno and Canadian County…We want to offer those affected by this layoff the ability to find new employment as well as connect them with Oklahoma companies looking to immediately hire.”
“We are inviting anyone affected by this layoff to attend this event, said Don Morris, Executive Director Oklahoma Office of Workforce Development. “This is an opportunity for these folks to get the assistance they deserve in what is a difficult time. Oklahoma is open for business and we stand ready and able to help those impacted.”
OESC Dislocated Worker Grant
OESC is also offering a Dislocated Worker Grant for workers in affected industries including oil and gas. The grant (depending on a person’s eligibility) can offer assistance in paying for things like on-the-job training, supportive services as well as career assistance.
