Texas will be ringing in the new year with among many things, the creation of more new jobs. West Texas based Preferred Sands will be opening its Monahans facility in January of 2018.
With it will come the creation of some 130 jobs. Company president T.J. Doyle indicated that “We’re well into hiring,” in a phone interview with the Midland Reporter-Telegram from his office in Radnor, Pennsylvania.
He went on to say that the core management team is in place, and now the company is filling positions that include heavy equipment operators, loaders, utility hands, plant operators, electricians, and more. The concern was ensuring that employees would be properly trained for the plant opening. The location of the new plant will be at 7909 E.
Interstate 20 is about equidistant between the Midland and Delaware Basins, Doyle said. “We’ve been in the frac sand business for a decade, and we’ve been selling to the Permian Basin since we opened our doors,” he said.
“Of overall demand, the Permian Basin is about 40 percent, the largest by a significant margin. As a percentage of overall market share, the Permian Basin will remain in the 40 to 45 percent range even as the overall market grows.”
“We’re excited to be in the Permian, we’re excited to be a major employer in the Midland-Odessa area,” Doyle said. Noting that the company is also building a mine in Atascosa and Bexar counties to serve the Eagle Ford, he said, “We plan to be in Texas a long time.”
