Independent producer once again makes the “100 Best Companies to Work For” list.

One of the Permian Basin’s top oil and gas lease holders could be one of the best places to work in the country, according to financial magazine Fortune.

Fortune ranked Devon Energy Corp at 92 on the annual list of the “100 Best Companies to Work For.”

Founded in 1971 and headquartered in Oklahoma City, Devon is one of the nation's largest oil and gas exploration and production companies, with domestic operations in the US and Canada. Devon is an independent producer, meaning it does not own refineries or retail gas stations.

Recently, the company began using horizontal drilling and other advances in drilling to capitalize on the oil-rich Permian and Delaware basins in southeast New Mexico and West Texas.

The company has about 240 field employees for its Delaware Basin operations, about 2,616 workers nationwide and 3,487 employees worldwide. Revenues total about $5.7 million in the US, and $12.2 million internationally.

The ranking was determined by an anonymous survey of all US employees, conducted by the Great Place to Work Institute. About 1,787 employee surveys were used in the study.

Ninety-four percent of employees surveyed said they were proud to tell others they work at Devon, while 93 percent said they “feel good about the ways we contribute to the community.”

“Employees overwhelmingly responded that Devon offers a welcoming environment, meaningful work, a commitment to work-life balance and leaders who are approachable, honest and ethical,” a news release read.

Devon was first named to Fortune’s list in 2008, and consistently made the list throughout the following decade. Devon was ranked 38th in the 2015 survey and 56th in 2014, during southeast New Mexico’s last oil boom.

It also ranked third in 2015 for Fortune’s “Best Workplaces in Manufacturing and Production” list.
