Located out of our Sherwood Park office, the Advisor, Leak Detection will report to the Supervisor, Leak Detection. The Advisor, Leak Detection will be responsible for the day-to-day support on specific IPL pipelines for real-time transient model, compensated volume balance and statistical computational pipeline monitoring (CPM) systems. This important role will monitor ongoing issues and assist with bringing sensitivity and reliability into compliance with Inter Pipeline (IPL) policy, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
Key Activities and Responsibilities
•Maintain the integrity of the Leak Detection System by updating of all required changes to leak detection or real time hydraulic systems for assigned pipelines
•Configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining all IPL leak detection systems to ensure a safe, reliable, and compliant operation
•Support Control Centre Operators ensuring that all leak detection alarms are analyzed, and the root cause and resolution of the deviation documented
•Complete routine scheduled work orders as assigned by the Supervisor, Pipeline Simulations
•Develop a continual improvement plan to achieve optimal leak detect sensitivity/reliability in alignment with company targeted thresholds and industry regulatory requirements
•Support leak detection system audits
•Verify calibration and failure of instruments used in the leak detection systems
•Liaison between project management and third-party personnel for the operation and protection of assets to meet the company’s strategic plan and supporting initiatives
•Interface with, coordinate, and supervise consultants and contractors for the purpose of facility upgrades and maintenance
Education, Skills and Abilities
•Post-secondary education in a technical/engineering field (engineering, engineering technology, computer system, etc.) is preferred
•3 to 5 years’ experience developing or operating leak detection systems or hydraulic models, with a background in leak detection regulation and industry standard
•Real-time transient hydraulic modeling and computational pipeline monitoring (CPM) experience
•Proficient with leak detection systems using real time transient models, compensated volume balance and statistical methods
•Capability in pipeline transient hydraulic simulation and computational monitoring with pipeline operational experience
•Knowledge of SCADA systems and data analysis tools (Excel, Pi, Power BI, etc.)
Schedule
Full time, Monday – Friday
Participation in on-call support rotation
As this position is identified as safety and security sensitive, employment of a final candidate will be conditional upon completion of pre-employment medical, drug/alcohol, and criminal background check assessments with satisfactory results.
