About the roles:

Drilling Rigs

Floorhand - The floorhand role is primarily responsible for handling drilling equipment on the drilling rig floor and keeping the rig and location clean and orderly.

Motorhand - The motorhand role works with the floorhand on the drilling rig floor, handling drilling equipment. This role is typically responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of the engines and other equipment on location.

Derrickhand - The derrickhand role is responsible for any work that occurs in the derrick, preparing and monitoring the mud, mud flow, and mud tanks. On certain rigs, the derrickhand will operate the pipe arm, or other automated equipment.

Driller - The driller supervises rig crews and is responsible for the training of the crew, the drilling activity and rig equipment during their shift. Depending on the circumstance, the driller will work with all crew members and assist them in their different activities.

Well Serving

Floorhand - The Floorhand is an entry-level position. Tasks associated to general cleaning, rig up and out and pipe handling would be the greater area of responsibility. During tripping operations this worker would be positioned on the rig floor.

Derrickhand - The Derrickhand is the second level of the rig crew and works mainly in the derrick and with pumping operations.

Operator - The Operator is the third level of the rig crew, works mainly on the Operators pad and is the supervisor of the rig while operating.
