MPD Operators Needed in Houston, TX
What Valaris is Hiring for:
The MPD Operator is responsible for all aspects of the drilling program, including testing, inspection and trouble-shooting of MPD control system, and communicating effectively with the Valaris crews, 3rd party crews and customer representatives.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Leads the rig up/down function test, pressure test and operation of all MPD equipment on site and preparing the paperwork requirements with minimal supervision.
- Leads all Managed Pressure Drilling, mechanical and hydraulic inspection requirements.
- Manages any changes to Managed Pressure Drilling, mechanical or hydraulic equipment.
- Communicates and coordinates with internal staff, customer and 3rd party service providers.
- Leads the completion of all field documentation.
- Troubleshoots MPD equipment and implements corrective actions.
- Maintains and updates documentation relating to any project specific HAZID, HAZOP, and Risk Assessments.
- Liaises with customers on technical issues, including performance review and process improvements to better support the needs of the customer.
- Fully understands the required software of the system (e.g. Victus) and can update settings with pore pressure results.
- Understands DP Alerts (Yellow and Red) along with shut in procedures for the facility.
- Understands the fingerprinting of the hole section, can identify any potential influx/ losses from the wellbore, and reacts to same understanding the limits to circulate out using the MPD system.
- Ensures tripping speed limits are maintained as per RCD equipment rating and the surge and swab pressure calculation while compensating for such.
- Verifies proper maintenance of annular pressures to keep the wellbore in an overbalanced state.
- Trains and mentors newer operators.
- Documents any incidents per the Valaris Incident Reporting Procedure.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Experience
- Minimum 1-3+ years field experience in Drilling, Subsea or MPD related role
- Working knowledge of Conventional, Mechanized and Overdrive mechanical tools
- Working knowledge of software control systems (well control and drilling systems)
- Mechanical aptitude and understanding of hydraulic and mechanical systems.
- Can demonstrate, apply knowledge and perform all hands on functions of all operations Underbalanced Drilling/ Managed Pressure Drilling equipment including rig up, operating, event identification and downhole theory, maintenance of compression / separation equipment and troubleshooting
- Conversant with all matters related to Managed Pressure Drilling equipment on site, including regulatory standards.
