What KMC Mining is Hiring for:

Reporting to the Vice President of Maintenance and Assets, the General Manager-Maintenance is a member of the Senior Management Team who develops and sustains a safe and reliable Maintenance department which will meet the annual budget, goals and objectives; all while engaging the business to deliver profitable growth and consistently meeting or exceeding the expectations of the client and providing the highest degree of satisfaction. The General Manager also plans, directs and coordinates all aspects of the Maintenance department to ensure the organization functions efficiently and effectively. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for promoting the safety culture, adhering to all provincial and federal laws, KMC policies, internal controls and practices, while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and uphold the values of KMC Mining.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Implementation of the Company’s standards and procedures ensuring changes are documented and evolving with the organization;
  • Ensure the Health & Safety Management Plan is communicated, implemented, and followed across site along with safety performance measures of direct reports and self are achieved;
  • Maintain ongoing dialogue with the VP Operations on the status of the Maintenance department;
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with the management team while building and achieving the company goals and endeavors:
  • Inter-face with area managers and inter-site peers on a day to day basis;
  • Work closely with Safety, Operations, Maintenance, HR, and Technical Services Groups to ensure effective communication exists;
  • Communicate organizational changes and new initiatives seeking feedback and recommendations;
  • Establish and maintain relevant business relationships with vendors in tandem with Executive Leadership Team;
  • Inform vendors of issues and corrections are made in a timely fashion;
  • Ensure KMC receives the best possible pricing;
  • Negotiate and revisit vendor agreements on an on-going basis;
  • Manages the workforce planning, balancing, retention, development, and release of operational personnel in collaboration with the Manager of Human Resources:
  • Discuss workforce requirements and approve or decline requisitions;
  • Provide recommendations on HR initiatives, charters, and programs;
  • Discuss employee development with performance leaders;
  • Complete performance management process for direct reports and ensure direct reports are requiring the same of their staff;
  • Minimize costs while maximizing margins: o Develop an annual comprehensive operational plan and budget and steward to its execution;
  • Identify the planning process for the acquisition and disposition for capital assets;
  • Ensure capital is spent in areas where a good ROI can occur;
  • Optimize the use of assets and manpower to meet corporate production plans:
  • Ongoing interaction with Maintenance leadership on all sites to ensure equipment utilization is at capacity;
  • Ongoing communication with Operations Managers on all sites to ensure equipment and manpower is efficient and utilized; and
  • Develop and communicate the maintenance plan;
  • Ensure the maintenance plan is prepared based on agreed long-term plans provided by operations management, the central. planning team and in accordance with KMC standard procedures;
  • Oversee the management of inventory, freight and logistics according to the maintenance plan;
  • Recommend opportunities to improve overall performance and create win-win situations for both KMC and client; and
  • Other duties as assigned from time-to-time.

Job Qualifications:

Formal Education

  • Trade Certificate / Engineering Degree or equivalent qualifications.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 10 – 15 years of related experience with 5+ years in management role.
  • Experience maintaining heavy mining equipment or other large “ultra-size” mobile fleet
  • Prior supervisory experience in an industrial environment.
  • Mining Industry knowledge / experience.

Technical Skills

  • Excellent leadership, communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizing, decision, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborative and performance orientated.
  • Proficient with computer use and familiar with computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Strong ability to work as part of a support team and adapt to changing stakeholder requirements.
  • Tactful and diplomatic.
  • Conflict resolution skills – Must be willing to travel
