Edmonton's Recreation Centers feature world-class amenities, including aquatic areas, indoor tracks, fitness centers, fieldhouse, fitness program rooms and basketball, badminton, tennis and volleyball courts. Contribute to the health, safety and enjoyment of all guests by helping to maintain the operations at these facilities.
- Set up and take down equipment for facility events, programs and sports activities
- Perform summer season outdoor mowing, playground/picnic site maintenance, minor equipment repairs, comfort station cleaning and supplies
- Safely operate John Deere Brush or Kubota, and perform winter season snow removal using a snow blower, gas-powered walk behind snow sweeper and hand equipment
- Assist contract custodial staff with overall facility cleanliness and sanitation of washrooms, shower rooms and locker rooms
- Maintain cleanliness of all storage areas, mechanical areas, electrical rooms, corridors, bleachers and running track areas
- Vacuum sweep, mop, strip, seal and wax floors as required or scheduled
- Perform minor repairs on facility equipment and furniture
- Liaise with and assist customers with equipment and facility needs
- Perform the daily facility opening and closing procedures
- Provide a security presence throughout the facility
- Maintain appropriate facility and equipment maintenance documentation
- Report facility and equipment maintenance needs to the Operations Supervisor and call for Trades assistance in his/her absence
- Liaise with and assist the Maintenance Repairman I and Building Trades Maintenance staff
Qualifications
- Completed 10th school grade
- One year of related and relevant labour experience, including interacting with and engaging the general public. Experience in sports facilities operations is an asset
- Ability to safely operate the equipment and tools required for the position such as scrubbers, sweepers, snow blowers, lawnmowers, gators, snow sweepers and miscellaneous small electrical and mechanical equipment
- Knowledge of standard methods, materials, safety precautions, WHMIS and hazards involved in the construction and maintenance of specific assignments
- Ability to work safely in a variety of environmental conditions, as dictated by Occupational Health and Safety and the Community Services
- Department regulations, policies and procedures, at all times
- Ability to understand verbal and written instructions and maintain simple records
- Ability to work alone and problem-solve independently
- Experience with janitorial or custodial work is an asset
- Experience with hand tools is an asset
- Emergency First Aid and CPR certification
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
