What Gulf Copper is Hiring for:

This position involves welding steel plates, pipes, and various metal components for marine vessels, industrial projects, and related equipment. Welders must be skilled in using different types of welding equipment and methods, including gas, arc, wire-fed, and tig welding. They should also be able to read blueprints, drawings, and technical manuals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform welding in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Use equipment for cutting, grinding, and gouging.
  • Repair damaged parts, fill holes, and weld components together.
  • Work with various metals, including steel, aluminum, titanium, and exotic materials.
  • Select and set up equipment, execute welds, and inspect for quality.

Required Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or technical school certification.
  • 6 months to 1 year of experience or equivalent education.
  • Must pass ABS or ASME weld test.

Working Conditions:

  • Open-air environments (noisy, hot, cold).
  • Standing and operating equipment for up to 4 continuous hours.
  • Must wear PPE (hearing, eye, head protection).
  • Some climbing and lifting (50 lbs).
  • Work may involve confined spaces and high elevations.
  • Inland/offshore barge or industrial work settings.

Equipment Operation:

  • Use of blow torches, cutting torches, welding torches.
  • Operating gas welding, brazing, or cutting equipment.
  • Use of manlifts and welding shields.

Special Skills:

  • Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Strong team player, excellent communication skills.
  • Commitment to safety and company values.

Welder Classification:

  • Plate Welder 2nd Class (PLW2): SMAW or FCAW on plate/structural (ABS Q2+4G, ASME, AWS).
  • Plate Welder 1st Class (PLW1): SMAW & FCAW on plate/structural (ABS Q2+4G, ASME, AWS).
  • Pipe Welder 2nd Class (PPW2): SMAW/FCAW on plate and pipe (ABS Q3, AWS 6G).
  • Pipe Welder 1st Class (PPW1): SMAW/FCAW/GTAW on pipe (ABS Q3, ASME 6G, AWS 6G).
  • Combination Welder (PPLW): Capable of pipe/plate/structural welding using GTAW+FCAW or GTAW+SMAW.
