As the Equipment Operator High Pressure, you are part of the Wastewater and Stormwater Collection (WSC) team and are responsible to clean sanitary and storm water assets and structures to ensure that wastewater and stormwater flow without obstruction. Primary duties include:

  • Inspect job site to identify obstruction and determine how best to clear it.
  • Primarily clean sanitary mains, test manholes, sumps, etc. with occasional work on the storm system including mains, catch basins and leads using high pressure equipment (e.g. power flusher, vacuum truck, vactor unit, and combination unit).
  • Operate various tools and nozzles including root and calcium cutters to clear debris.
  • Perform other duties such as pulling cable for cleaning machines, maintaining the unit, assisting video and repair crews, as well as the Fire Department in the cleaning up and disposal of hazardous materials / chemical spills.
  • Complete daily report forms.
 Qualifications
  • Less than high school and at least 1 year of water and/or wastewater experience.
  • A valid Class 3 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with an Air Brake (Q) Endorsement and the ability to safely operate large vehicles and equipment is required with no more than 6 demerits, and no current charges or suspensions pending. 
  • Highschool diploma is an asset.
  • The following are essential skills for success in this position: Ability to read and understand pertinent operational procedures and manuals, to understand oral and written instructions, to complete forms.
    • Strong interpersonal skills to deal effectively with public/customers.
    • Ability and willingness to use software and desktop or remote devices.
    • Able to adapt to a fast changing environment.
 Working Conditions:  
  • Work outside; drive in, and work around, traffic; and operate dangerous equipment.
Pre-employment Requirements
  • A security clearance will be conducted.
  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
