APE Group is currently hiring Heavy Duty Mechanics, Journeyman Millwrights and Apprentice Millwrights for their maintenance project in Fort McMurray.
Compensation, benefits and other perks are competitive and depend on experience and position.
These positions are local to Fort McMurray and do not offer camp or flights.
Heavy Duty Mechanic Job Details
Heavy Duty Mechanics are responsible for the safe troubleshooting and repair of various types of heavy mining equipment. This includes Wiggle Wagons, Haul Trucks, Dozers, Graders, & Excavators.
The Mechanics will form part of a larger maintenance team strategically working to support the maintenance plan. In addition, the Heavy Duty Mechanics are responsible for promoting the APE
Maintenance safety culture, adhering to all Company policy, internal controls and practices, while maintaining the highest level of professionalism.
Primary general functions, but not limited to:
- Provide technical diagnosis and perform maintenance on various makes and models of large mining equipment;
- Provide support to the Shovel teams as needed
- Ensure work is completed safely and an FLHA is completed at the beginning of every job or when a job changes;
- Perform equipment maintenance according to OEM, standards, procedures and practices set out by industry and company;
- Recording information related to maintenance repairs and work completed
- Communicate updates to supervisor to ensure goals are met;
- Report all incidents, damage and near misses immediately;
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Red Seal/ Journeyman Heavy Duty
- Mechanic certification;
- A minimum of 3 years experience troubleshooting/repairing Wiggle Wagons, Haul Trucks, Dozers, Graders, & Excavators;
- Possession of a valid driver's license;
- CSTS/OSSA/BSO/CSO
- Fall Arrest, Overhead Crane, Basic
- Rigging, Aerial Work Platform, WHMIS,
- Mask fit test
- Man Basket and Picker Truck training experience would be considered an asset;
- Proven safety training and exceptional safety record.
- Able to work independently and as part of a professional maintenance team
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
Millwright Apprentice Position Details
The term of apprenticeship for an industrial mechanic (millwright) is 4 years (four 12 month periods) including a minimum of 1560 hours of on-the job training and 8 weeks of technical training each year.
Industrial mechanics (millwrights) install, maintain, repair and troubleshoot stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment in production plants.
Primary general functions, but not limited to:
- Read diagrams and schematic drawings and service manuals to determine work procedures,
- Operate rigging equipment and dollies to place heavy machinery and parts, fit bearings, align gears and shafts, attach motors, and connect couplings and belts to precise tolerances,
- Align and test equipment, and make any necessary adjustments,
- Perform predictive and operational procedures,
- Repair or replace defective parts,
- Service and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and
- May do some tack welding (a weld that is adequate in size to temporarily hold components in place until it can be completely welded by a registered apprentice welder or a journeyman welder) and fabrication as well as maintain an inventory of replacement parts.

Journeyman Millwright Position Details
As a Certified Millwright you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, installation & modification of all pump equipment to safely maximize, uptime, quality and productivity.
Requirements:
- Certified Journeyman Millwright (Interprovincial)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Solid background in oil industry and construction
- Previous shutdown/maintenance outage experience considered an asset
- Works well in a production environment
- Must be a self-starter with demonstrated ability to make sound decisions
- Demonstrates problem-solving, troubleshooting and analytical skills
- No site bans
- CSTS 09, OSSA / BSO / CSO
- Fall Protection
- Valid Driver’s License/Clean Driver’s Abstract
