What Is A DISA Test?
There are a number of tests that DISA offers, but the most popular are those used to test for the presence of drugs or alcohol in one’s system. Urine Testing
Of these four, urine testing is the most common. Urine testing shows the presence (or absence) of drug metabolites in a person’s urine. Drug metabolites are residues left behind in the body for a specified period of time (depending on the drug) after a person has used – even after the effects of the drug have worn off. These tests can screen for marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, methamphetamines, PCP, opiates, and more.
Hair Testing
Hair testing is used to detect repeat use, as it can detect repeat drug use for up to a 90-day time frame. This test can even detect when the drug was used, how long it was used for, and when use was discontinued. This test simply requires a small hair sample and like urine tests, can recognize usage of marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, methamphetamines, PCP, and opiates.
Oral Fluid Testing
In simpler terms: mouth swabbing. These tests take samples of one’s saliva in order to determine recent drug use – anywhere from a few minutes prior up to 48 hours prior to testing. This time frame makes these tests useful for a variety of situations, such as on site after an incident.
EBAT
These tests are used specifically for alcohol use and, unlike the previously mentioned drug tests, are only capable of showing current levels of impairment or intoxication but not past use. This test requires the subject to blow into a Breathalyzer, where results are shown immediately.
